No. 7 Gulls Race Past Men’s Ice Hockey, Get Revenge From Friday Night Upset

BEVERLY, Mass. (January 31, 2026) – The Western New England men's ice hockey team was bested by the seventh-ranked Gulls of Endicott College on Saturday afternoon as the Gulls avenged their defeat from last night to take the regular season series between the two teams.

Records:
  • Western New England: 5-15-0, 3-12-0 CNE
  • No. 7 Endicott College: 14-3-2, 9-3-2 CNE
How it Happened:

First Period:
  • The Golden Bears had a good first ten minutes to the opening period, making Endicott's Peter Sterling work for saves. Billy VanSumeren and Hunter Atkinson opened with shots on goal in the first 41 seconds of the period, quick chances for the Golden Bears. Lochlan Lauer made the start between the pipes for the Golden Bears and made a pair of saves in the opening five minutes of the game. Western New England had a spurt of offensive pressure just five minutes into the game when Kai Skilbeck, Everest Schneider, and Camille Marcoux all had chances at goal, but the Gulls' defense and goalkeeping came up big.
  • As the game turned to the midway point of the period, Endicott broke the scoreless game to put themselves ahead 1-0 when Louie Kamienski netted his ninth of the season for the Gulls. Endicott's offensive attack continued and scored another goal in the period less than four minutes later when Anthony Cafarelli picked up his sixth goal of the season to put Endicott ahead 2-0.
  • The Golden Bears were able to fend off the Gulls in the final six minutes of the period as Endicott held a 2-0 lead after one period of play. Lauer made 19 saves in the opening period while Endicott's Sterling made nine saves on nine WNE shots on goal.
Second Period:
  • It took the Gulls just 2:33 to double their lead in the second period, scoring 27 seconds in and 2:33 into the period to quickly put pressure on the Golden Bears. Kyle Furey scored his third of the season for the hosts while Conner Chalmers scored for the first time this season, giving Endicott a 4-0 lead. Western New England picked up a power play that saw Nick Theodos and Mathew Fortin taking shots on goal, but Sterling was up to the task for the Gulls.
  • Lauer was peppered with shots in the second frame and held off Endicott for as long as he could until the Gulls added a late goal in the third period to put the game virtually out of reach. On the power play, Endicott's Kamienski found the twine for the second time on the afternoon and 10th overall time on the season to give Endicott a 5-0 lead at the end of the second period.
  • The Golden Bears mustered just five shots in the period while Lauer made 14 saves on 17 Endicott shots on goal.
Third Period:
  • Western New England had just one shot in the opening nine minutes of the third period, coming just 20 seconds into the frame. Endicott continued testing Lauer, who did all he could to keep the Golden Bears alive in the game. Western New England picked up a power play at the eight-minute mark of the period that produced two shots on goal, turned away by Sterling.
  • Following, the Endicott pressure cracked Lauer for a sixth goal when John Goldowski scored for the sixth time this season to put EC ahead with 6:35 remaining in the game. The Gulls finished off Western New England with one final tally from Collin Kleiser with 3:16 left in the period to take the CNE contest and rebound from their loss last night, winning 7-0.
