NEW LONDON, Conn. (January 31, 2026) – The Western New England men's wrestling team was bested on Saturday afternoon on the road in dual action, falling to the 15
th-ranked Bears of Coast Guard Academy, 34-10.
How it Happened:
The Golden Bears held an early lead in the match after falling in the 125 lbs. weight class, they picked up a pair of wins at 133 lbs. and 141 lbs.
Antonio Intintoli registered an 11-3 major decision win for the Golden Bears while
Santiago Gonzalez picked up a fall victory in the final period of action to earn WNE six points, who took a ten points out their two victories. From there, the Bears were all over the Golden Bears, not allowing WNE back into the match.
At 149 lbs., USCGA's Nate Fitt earned a technical fall victory, 19-4 over
James Linder. The Bears earned a major decision victory at 157 lbs., decision victory at 165 lbs., as Teghan McConell fell short, 11-4, and another decision win at 174 lbs., when
Maxwell Bluhm fell just short, 7-5. The final three matches also went Coast Guard's way, earning a technical fall at 184 lbs., a decision win at 197 lbs., and a technical fall in the heavyweight match to down the Golden Bears by a final score of 34-10.
