SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 17, 2026) – The Western New England football team did not allow the ninth-ranked Gulls of Endicott College to score in two of the four quarters of Saturday's Conference of New England contest, but fell short in the middle of the contest, seeing the Gulls put up 21 second quarter points and 14 more in the third to defeat the Golden Bears by a final score of 35-10.
Records:
- No. 9 Endicott College: 6-0, 3-0 CNE
- Western New England: 2-4, 1-2 CNE
How it Happened:
First Quarter:
- Western New England opened with offense to start the contest and came around with points following a 12-play, 52-yard drive that ended with a 38-yard field goal from Max LoGrasso that sailed through the uprights, to give the Blue and Gold the opening 3-0 lead. The WNE defense quickly forced the Gulls off the field on a three-and-out, putting the ball back into the hands of WNE.
- The tough EC defense took WNE off the field quickly, as the Golden Bears generated just one yard on their next drive that lasted just 1:39. The Golden Bears got another spark, however, seeing Colvin Levesque intercept EC's Shea Lynch with 3:30 remaining, giving the ball back to WNE at midfield.
- The Golden Bears could not capitalize on the chance, going three-and-out again, forcing another punt from Rhys Suprenant. The Golden Bears held the ball for over 12 minutes into the opening quarter, but only led by three, 3-0, after the opening 15 minutes.
Second Quarter:
- It took Endicott just one play to find the end zone to open the second quarter when Lynch rushed home from eight yards out to give Endicott the lead, 7-3. The Gulls were aided by a 56-yard catch from Lynch to Matthew Richardson just as the first quarter expired.
- The ensuing WNE drive saw the Blue and Gold fumble the football on a fourth down chance, giving Endicott optimal field position to begin its drive. There, the Gulls ran down the field, using sophomore Bryan Ferreira to generate another rushing touchdown, this one from three yards out, capping off an eight-play, 68-yard drive, giving Endicott a 14-3 lead.
- Western New England bounced back late in the second quarter after DJ Gordon recovered a fumble at the EC one-yard line. Corey Kilroy needed just one play to rush home a score for the Golden Bears, who got back within four, 14-10 with 2:39 to play in the quarter.
- The WNE defense couldn't keep the Gulls off the scoreboard, as with just one second remaining in the quarter, Lynch found Matthew Richardson for a touchdown to give EC the 21-10 lead. Richardson made a WNE defender miss and got into the end zone just before time expired to extend the lead.
- Endicott had nine first downs and over 200 yards of offense in the quarter, scoring 21 points overall.
Third Quarter:
- The Golden Bears made a big stop to open the third quarter to keep the Gulls from extending their lead, but the WNE offense was staggered by Endicott, unable to score on an eight-play, 37-yard drive, that led to a failed fourth-down play, handing the ball back to the Gulls.
- Endicott ran three plays and scored when Lynch tossed a pass to Jacob Ward for a 32-yard touchdown, as Endicott began running away with the game, leading 28-10.
- After the Gulls forced another punt, the Golden Bears gave up another touchdown in the dying seconds of the quarter, as Lynch rushed for another touchdown, this time for four yards out, giving Endicott the 35-10 lead. Western New England mustered just 43 yards of offense in the quarter, while Endicott picked up 109 on 18 plays.
Fourth Quarter:
- WNE opened the frame with the ball and moved 45 yards down the field across nine plays but couldn't find the end zone as a fourth-and-three attempt failed, handing the ball back to the Gulls.
- Endicott couldn't do anything with their next offensive possession and was forced to punt but took off over four and a half minutes of clock, as the Golden Bears saw their chances of a comeback halted.
- Neither team came around to score in the fourth quarter, though the WNE defense held the Gulls to just 27 yards in the frame and shutout Endicott in a quarter for the second time in the game, but it would not be enough, as the Blue and Gold fell by a final score of 35-10.
Inside the Lines:
- The Golden Bears completed just seven passes on 15 attempts and ran the ball 46 times in the game. Corey Kilroy completed five of those passes and rushed 19 times for the Golden Bears, scoring one touchdown on the ground.
