First Half

  • Western New England wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead just 42 seconds into the opening half. Sophia Scyocurka connected with Liza Pinette, who finished the opportunity for the game's opening goal, giving the Golden Bears an immediate advantage on their home field.
  • Gordon looked to answer quickly, testing Golden Bears goalkeeper Ainsley Napolitano in the second minute. Sophie Lyons directed an attempt toward the bottom-right corner of the net, but Napolitano was positioned to make the save. Meghan Hartnett responded with Western New England's next opportunity at 2:49, forcing Gordon goalkeeper Ivy Daniel into her first save of the afternoon.
  • The Golden Bears continued generating offensive opportunities throughout the opening 15 minutes, with Scyocurka sending an attempt wide in the 10th minute before Pinette narrowly missed another chance in the 14th. Despite Western New England's early attacking efforts, Gordon found the equalizer at the 16-minute mark when Eowyn Lapp scored a set-piece goal to bring the contest level at one.
  • Western New England worked to regain the lead as the half progressed, earning corner kicks in the 20th and 29th minutes. Ava dos Santos recorded an attempt following the first corner, while Hartnett put another shot on target at 28:34, forcing Daniel to make her second save. The Golden Bears maintained pressure with eight first-half shots and three corner kicks.
  • With just over six minutes remaining before halftime, Gordon moved in front for the first time. Lapp struck again at 38:56, recording her second unassisted goal of the afternoon and giving the Fighting Scots a 2-1 advantage after Western New England had controlled the early scoring.
  • Gordon threatened to extend its lead in the closing moments of the half, recording three shots in the final two minutes. Napolitano turned aside Lapp's attempt with two seconds remaining, keeping the deficit at one heading into the break. The Fighting Scots held a narrow 9-8 advantage in first-half shots, while both goalkeepers recorded two saves.

Second Half

  • Trailing 2-1 to begin the second half, Western New England looked to work its way back into the contest. Withington, who had entered the contest in the 64th minute, converted a scoring opportunity off an assist from dos Santos, bringing the Golden Bears even at 2-2 with just under 20 minutes remaining in regulation.
  • With the match tied, Western New England continued looking for the go-ahead goal. The Golden Bears earned another corner kick in the 80th minute, followed by an attempt from Emma Forde at 80:14 that missed to the left. Gordon responded with two shots from Lily Harper in the 82nd and 83rd minutes, but neither attempt found the target.

Lapp completed her hat trick at 89:10, scoring off an assist from Liana Hanley to put the Fighting Scots ahead 3-2. Western New England was unable to produce another scoring opportunity in the closing seconds, falling by a single goal despite its second-half comeback.
