Golden Bears Control CNE Matchup Over Curry, Dominate With 48-13 Win

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 24, 2026) – The Western New England football team came away with a much-needed 48-13 victory at Golden Bear Stadium on Saturday afternoon, using offense, defense, and special teams to take down the visiting Colonels of Curry College.

Records:
  • Western New England: 3-4, 2-2 CNE
  • Curry College: 4-3, 3-1 CNE
How it Happened:

First Quarter:
  • Curry opened the game with a long drive to start the game, lasting 20 plays and 11:10 of the opening 15 minutes of play, which resulted in the first points of the game when Curry quarterback Caden Borgos rushed home a touchdown from three yards out to give the Colonels the opening 6-0 lead. Quincy Lawson blocked the extra point attempt for the Blue and Gold.
  • Western New England responded with seven points on its first offensive drive of the game, lasting seven plays and 65-yards, as Marcus Crawford capped off the drive with a touchdown on the ground from 18 yards out, while Max LoGrasso's extra point sailed through the uprights to give the Golden Bears the 7-6 lead.
  • Curry went for 80 total yards in the opening quarter, while Western New England ran seven plays for 65 yards.
Second Quarter:
  • Western New England's defense made a stop on Curry's next offensive chance to open the second quarter, giving the offense another chance to score.
  • WNE's offense needed five plays and 78 yards to put up another touchdown when Corey Kilroy finished off the drive with a 17-yard rushing touchdown, giving WNE a 14-6 lead. A connection from Kilroy to John De Camps sparked the drive from the beginning to give the Golden Bears the eight-point lead.
  • Curry's next offensive drive resulted in another stop from the WNE defense as Alante Green, Dimaggio Ferrara, and Ryan Clark, among others, continued to make stops for the Golden Bears, kicking Curry off the field and bringing the WNE offense back on the field for the final 3:35 of game action.
  • The Golden Bears picked up three more points as the quarter expired when Max LoGrasso connected on his second field goal of the season, hitting from 35 yards out, giving WNE a 17-6 halftime lead.
  • WNE ran 15 plays for 125 yards in the quarter, while Curry ran 16 plays for 82 yards. Kilroy started the game 5-for-5 with 64 yards in the pass game, while rushing seven times for 51 yards.
Third Quarter:
  • The Golden Bears opened the quarter with three more points to take a 20-6 lead following a field goal from LoGrasso, who connected from 25 yards out to give the Golden Bears the 14-point advantage to cap off an eight-play, 48-yard scoring drive.
  • The Colonels went three-and-out on their opening drive of the second half as Noah Albert and Michael Canavatchel came up with key tackles on Curry to keep them off the scoreboard.
  • Western New England responded with another score, its first touchdown of the second half, when Matthew McGuire carried the rock into the end zone from two yards out to give the Golden Bears the 27-6 lead.
  • WNE ran 19 plays in the third quarter for 104 yards, while Curry was stuffed, running just seven for 24 yards.
Fourth Quarter:
  • Western New England dropped three touchdowns on the Colonels in the final frame, opening the quarter with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Drew Caouette to John De Camps to give the Golden Bears a 34-6 lead. The drive was sparked by a 22-yard pass from Caouette to Kevin Acosta to lead WNE down the field.
  • Logan Watts recorded a quarterback hurry on a fourth down play for Curry's offense that stopped the Colonels from moving the ball and turning the ball back over to Western New England's offense.
  • After WNE did not complete a fourth-down conversion, Curry got the ball back, but fumbled on its first play, as Joel Maggs scooped and scored a 56-yard touchdown as the Golden Bears continue to power their way past Curry, leading 41-6.
  • Curry was able to score for the first time since its opening drive of the game with 6:10 remaining in the quarter when Omar E. Lee Jr. scored on a 64-yard rush to give Curry 13 points. Western New England picked up its final touchdown of the game with 1:03 remaining when Noah Pierre-Louis threw his first career collegiate touchdown pass to Jayden Melendez, who recorded his first career touchdown catch, as the freshman duo gave WNE a 48-13 lead, a score that would hold as the Golden Bears came up with the victory.
