NEW LONDON, Conn. (February 15, 2026) – The Western New England men's wrestling team competed in the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Futures Tournament on Sunday, hosted by Coast Guard Academy, seeing three of their own place in the top six of their respective weight classes.
The Golden Bears saw two in the 125 lb. weight class place third and fourth, as the pair matched in the third-place match of the bracket.
Ethan Titus picked up the win in the third-place match for the Golden Bears over
Clayton O'Connor. After opening with a bye, Titus took a 10-4 decision win over Wesleyan's Sebastian Kristal to advance to the quarterfinals. Titus picked up three takedowns in the match, including two in the opening period, to come up with the win. The quarterfinals saw Titus down 3-0 after the second period, but an escape and a takedown in 35 seconds turned the match around as the WNE sophomore defeated Ben Fournier of Norwich University, 5-3 via decision. Titus battled in the semifinal round, coming up with four escapes and a takedown, but dropped an 18-7 major decision to Avi Berg of Castleton University. Titus then defeated O'Connor on a fall in 2:22 after escaping and taking down his teammate and nailing the pin to take third overall in the weight class.
Clayton O'Connor's afternoon began with a bye and then a technical fall victory, 20-3 over Yosuel Santiago of Castleton University, picking up two nearfalls in the match to dominate the round of 16. The quarterfinal round saw O'Connor defeat Springfield College's Hunter Sanchez by an 11-3 major decision, coming up with three takedowns, one in each period. The WNE senior then wrestled in the semifinal round where Coast Guard's Keoka Madayag earned the fall win over O'Connor, sending O'Connor to the aforementioned third/fourth place match against Titus, taking fourth in the weight class overall.
In the 165 lb. weight class, WNE's
David Lisk earned a win in the opening match of the day, nearing a fall victory in the first two minutes of the match, but ended with a 12-0 technical fall win after two periods of action to advance in the championship bracket. Lisk stayed dominant on the mat, earning a 19-3 technical fall win
over Jacob Poore of Wesleyan University, picking up 16 points in the first period to cruise to a victory. The quarterfinal round saw Lisk fall on an 8-1 decision to Kyle Csikari of Coast Guard Academy, taking down Lisk in the final 50 seconds of the match to send Lisk to the consolation bracket. Lisk's first match in the consolation bracket was a 21-5 technical fall victory over Rhode Island College's Dillon Carter. Lisk led 12-3 after the first period and finished off Carter after the second period to win the match and advanced at placing in the weight class. Lisk then won the consolation round of four with a fall victory in just 1:22 to get into the fifth/sixth place match against Castleton's Colby Celuck. In the match, Lisk opened with a pair of takedowns to lead 6-1 after one period. Celuck picked up a takedown in the second period, but with four seconds left in the final period, Lisk earned one final takedown to come up with a win in the match and took fifth place overall in the weight class.
