Women’s Basketball Advances To CNE Championship With 66-61 Win Over Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. (February 27, 2026) – The No. 3-seeded Western New England women's basketball team dropped the No. 2-seeded Gulls of Endicott College in the Conference of New England (CNE) Semifinals on Friday night to advance to the CNE Championship game after 18 points from Perry Blasetti. WNE will play No. 1 Johnson & Wales University on Sunday, March 1, at 1:00 PM for a shot at the CNE Title.

Records:
  • No. 3 Western New England: 20-7
  • No. 2 Endicott College: 17-9
How it Happened:

First Quarter:
  • Both teams found offense in the early goings of the game, starting off 3/5 from the field each. Endicott put down the opening four points of the game, Tracia Wladkowski and Emma Shinney shining for the Gulls early. Perry Blasetti drove to the lane and found WNE's first bucket of the game while Paige Winter continued her hot shooting to give WNE a 5-4 lead, the first lead for the Golden Bears of the night.
  • The lead went back-and-forth, with Wladkowski for Endicott and Hannah Blake for WNE exchanging buckets. The midway point of the opening quarter saw the Golden Bears and Gulls stay tied at nine in a tightly contested opening quarter. WNE had an 11-9 lead following the first points of the game from Olivia Chrzan with 5:02 to play.
  • Endicott jumped out in front 14-11 following a triple from Aleah Bracey, but Erin Reen's and-one opportunity put the Golden Bears back even. Down the stretch, Bracey and Chrzan dropped triples in the final 20 seconds of the frame, seeing the quarter end as it started, all even, 19-19.
  • Western New England shot 50% from the field, going 2/3 from the outside. Endicott was a tick below the Golden Bears, shooting 44% from the field and was 2/4 from the outside.
Second Quarter:
  • Katie Regan sparked the Golden Bears early in the second quarter with an and-one, which she scored, giving the Golden Bears a 24-22 advantage just over 1:30 into the frame. Following the bucket from Regan, both teams went cold from the floor as the teams went cold from the field. The Golden Bears took a three-point lead, 26-23, following a Devlyn McDonald jumper with 6:33 to play in the quarter.
  • Western New England held its three-point lead after Sarah West contributed offensively with a layup, followed by a McDonald jumper that gave the Golden Bears a five-point lead, its largest of the game.
  • The Gulls tied the game at 30 following a 5-0 run and took the lead on a Sofia Mazzotta layup with 2:05 to play. The Golden Bears answered with a pair at the free throw line from Olivia Chrzan, who was up to 11 first-half points for WNE, as the game was tied 32-32 after the opening half.
  • Western New England shot just 38% in the second quarter while Endicott hit four of its nine shots and outrebounded WNE 9-7.
Third Quarter:
  • Paige Winter canned a triple to open the third quarter to give the Golden Bears a 37-34 lead. The Gulls came right back and tied the game at 37 before taking a one-point lead with still 8:03 to play in the quarter. The first two field goals of the half for the Golden Bears were triples, as Perry Blasetti knocked down a three for Western New England to retake the lead, 40-38.
  • Western New England's lead got as big as seven in the quarter after Erin Reen and Blasetti continued to contribute offensively. The Golden Bears held Endicott to just 3/12 shooting in the quarter and came away with a six-point lead after 30 minutes of play, leading 49-43.
  • The Golden Bears hit five field goals in the quarter, two from the outside, and were a perfect 5/5 from the free throw line.
Fourth Quarter:
  • Both teams exchanged buckets in the opening minutes of the quarter, while the WNE lead got as big as 11 with 5:34 remaining in the quarter after Sarah West knocked down a jumper to put the Golden Bears ahead by double digits. West produced a key four-points in the quarter, holding onto WNE's lead, 58-47, with 4:52 to play.
  • Endicott made a run late in the game to put a scare in the Golden Bears, dropping the 11-point lead into just a five-point lead with 1:26 left after Endicott's leader Emma Shinney connected on a jump shot, seeing Endicott trail 62-57. Perry Blasetti got to the rim to score a layup with 1:04 left, putting WNE back ahead by seven.
  • The Gulls battled back to go down by just three with 42 seconds left, but key free throws down the stretch from Blasetti iced the game and the win for the Golden Bears, who took down Endicott on its home floor for the second time this season, this time coming up with a 66-61 victory.
