Golden Bears Outduel Fighting Scots On Senior Day, 76-41

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 7, 2026) – The Golden Bears would celebrate Senior Day in winning fashion on Saturday. The team celebrated four seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program. The seniors celebrated their time at WNE with a 76-41 win over Gordon College. They were led by three double-digit scorers in Sophie Hedge, Perry Blasetti, who also recorded a double-double, and Katie Regan.

Records:
Western New England: 15-6, 9-3 CNE
Gordon College: 4-16, 2-9 CNE

How it Happened:
First Quarter:
  • The Golden Bears opened the game with the first basket thanks to Hannah Baxter. Then, a pair of Sophie Hedge three-pointers would open the Golden Bear lead to 8-2. A lead that Leah McGarvey and Sophie Peters would close quickly.
  • With the score tied at eight, Devlyn McDonald, who just recently entered the game, had the next six WNE points and helped WNE start to pull away from the Fighting Scots. Five more Sophie Hedge points and two points each from Perry Blasetti and Katie Regan gave WNE a 23-13 lead after the first quarter.
  • The Golden Bears were very accurate in the first quarter. They shot 60 percent from the field and an overwhelming sixty percent from three. They picked up seven points off their opponent's turnovers and shared the ball to the tune of eight assists.
Second Quarter:
  • The Golden Bears were just getting started in the first quarter. Katie Regan started the second quarter with a block for WNE, then scored two points. Regan had four of the first six WNE points in the second. Olivia Chrzan had the next four.
  • It was a 17-0 run to start the second quarter for WNE. The team was sharing the ball and finding points from everyone on the court. Regan and Chrzan got the run started, but Blasetti and Paige Winter kept it going. Winter hit both shots attempted towards the end of the first half for five total points.
  • The offense was clicking, but so was the defense, which only let up six second-quarter points and had three blocked shots. WNE shot 69.2% from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc to keep their great shooting day going. They also cleaned up the glass in the second, with twelve of the seventeen possible rebounds. They led 45-19 at halftime.
Third Quarter:
  • WNE did not take their foot off the pedal in the third. Five quick points from Sophie Hedge and Perry Blasetti extended their lead to 28. The teams traded shots for a while with a three answered by a three and a layup answered by the same on the other end of the floor.
  • With WNE up 30, the Fighting Scots had a quick 8-2 run in the latter half of the third quarter, but Katie Regan and Perry Blasetti kept the Golden Bears from slipping up too much.
  • The Golden Bears ended the third on a 9-0 run, with Lottia Barnes collecting her first basket of the day and Regan extending her point total to 12. WNE led 65-32 after the third, again shooting fifty percent from the field, picking up two more blocked shots, and seeing almost half their third-quarter points come from the bench.
Fourth Quarter:
  • The Golden Bears would end the game with a slower fourth quarter. However, Sarah West would see a quick three points go on the board thanks to her baskets. The team would then turn a little more towards their bench and allow the seniors to exit to a round of applause on Senior Day.
  • First-years Alexa Rabidoux, Olivia Chrzan, and Lizzie Hansen would make an impact in the fourth through a steal, two points, and four points, respectively.
  • WNE would defeat Gordon 76-41. WNE shot 50.8 percent from the floor and 38.5% from beyond the three-point stripe. They outrebounded Gordon 46-26 and saw 33 points come from the bench.
Inside the Lines:
  • The Golden Bears defeated the Fighting Scots 72-38.
  • Three Golden Bears ended the day in double digits with Sophie Hedge, Perry Blasetti, and Katie Regan having 16, 14, and 12, respectively.
  • Blasetti ended with a double-double after adding 11 rebounds to her 14 points.
  • Woynitu Ciccarello led the Fighting Scots with 12 points and five rebounds.
  • WNE won the turnover battle by creating two more than they gave up. That included seven steals. They created 20 points off turnovers.
Up Next on the Schedule:
  • WNE will return to the home hardwood court on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 5:30 PM for a rematch with Roger Williams University.
