Golden Bears Drop Contest at Home Versus the Golden Flyers, 13-6

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 15, 2026) – WNE hosted the Nazareth University Golden Flyers in their final of three Spring Break contests. Having gone 1-1 in the other two, the Golden Bears looked to break the split with a win on Sunday. However, the Golden Flyers had other plans as Matthew Farrington and the rest of the visiting side took the win, 13-6.

Records:
Western New England: 2-4 (0-0)
Nazareth University: 6-6 (0-0)

How it Happened:
First Quarter:
  • The Golden Flyers got out to a quick start with the first two goals of the game in the opening six minutes of play. Matthew Farrington and Anthony Menickelli earned the goals for the away side.
  • The Golden Bears answered with 6:21 left in the opening quarter thanks to a Josh Gagnon man-up goal. That was followed almost three minutes later by a Max Rudgers goal, which was set up during a timeout called by Coach Klepacki. The teams were tied 2-2.
  • The Golden Flyers had many opportunities to take a sizeable lead in the first, but Jeffrey Wojtowicz made save after save for WNE. The Golden Bears had the final shot of the first. It was on target but saved by Sven Habitzreuther for the Golden Flyers.
  • The stats were relatively even after the first, with WNE having more shots (8-6) but less shots on goal (4-5). Both teams had nine ground balls picked up, and WNE had more faceoff wins (3-2) and saves (3-2).
Second Quarter:
  • A flurry of goals started the second as both teams traded goals in the first 2:44 of the quarter. It started with a Logan Jenkins goal, his second of the season. Then, after a Noah Olbrich goal for Nazareth, Thomas Labbe regained WNE's lead, 4-3.
  • However, the rest of the quarter would belong to the Golden Flyers. They scored four consecutive goals to conclude the first half. William Meagher, Kyle Rosenberger (2), and Joey Hathorn scored for the away side and gave the team a 7-4 lead over WNE at halftime.
  • The stats of the second quarter were very similar. Both teams had eleven shots and five shots on goal. Nazareth had three saves to WNE's zero. WNE had more faceoff wins (6-2). Both teams also had 10 ground balls picked up each.
Third Quarter:
  • The Golden Flyers won the third quarter as well as the second. They scored all four goals of the third quarter, starting with goals from Farrington and Olbrich. Rosenberger and William O'Neill claimed the assists.
  • O'Neill then got a second and third point as O'Neill scored the third and fourth goals of the quarter. Rosenberger helped out with the assist on the third goal, and Louis Cogliandro assisted the fourth. The score was 11-4.
  • Despite the difference in scoring, the stats looked similar. The Golden Flyers had more shots (13-12), shots on goal (7-6), and saves (6-3). Both teams picked up seven ground balls, and WNE had more faceoff wins (5-0).
Fourth Quarter:
  • The goals were shared 2-2 in the fourth, but that would mean the Golden Bears would drop the contest 13-6. The Golden Flyers started the fourth by scoring their ninth and tenth consecutive goals. Farrington collected both of the goals. Luke Suchyna assisted with the first.
  • WNE then ended the contest's scoring with two goals in 14 seconds. Josh Gagnon scored his second of the day off an assist from Jacob Roy, and then TJ Dalicandro scored his fourth goal of the season to get the Golden Bears to six goals on the day.
  • WNE fell by a seven-goal deficit. However, the outshot Nazareth (42-35), had more ground balls picked up (36-32), and more faceoff wins (18-5). The Golden Flyers had more shots on goal (20-18) and saves (12-7).
