Golden Bears Sweep Suffolk For First Conference Victory Of 2026

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 24, 2026)  - The Western New England men's tennis team took a 7-0 victory over the Rams of Suffolk University on Tuesday afternoon at Forest Park Tennis Courts, claiming the first Conference of New England victory of the season.

How it Happened:

Doubles play went Western New England's way in quick order to claim the first point of the match. Joshua Marx and Nolan Jermain swept the third position doubles match, 6-0. Quinn Northrop and Eston Fowler teamed up for a 6-1 victory for Western New England in the second doubles spot, wrapping up the early point in the match. In the top doubles spot, the pairing of Michel Abizaid Nunez and Colby Esposito came away with a 6-3 victory to sweep the Rams in doubles action, taking a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Golden Bears continued their dominance in singles action, seeing a trio of matches sweep in straight sets without giving up any points. Nolan Jermain defeated Suffolk's Franco Amadio in the fourth singles position, 6-0, 6-0. The second singles spot saw sophomore Quinn Northrop take a 6-0, 6-0 win over Gabriel Soave. To round out the sweeps, Kyle Poccia earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over Nicolas Calderon, which clinched the win in the match for the Golden Bears. Western New England saw Eston Fowler take the opening set over Jason Yany 6-0 and rounded out the third set with a 6-3 to sweep the win. Michel Abizaid Nunez dropped just one game in his fifth position singles match, winning a 6-0, 6-1 victory. To round out the win for the Golden Bears, WNE's Colby Esposito clinched a 6-1, 6-3 victory, as the Golden Bears swept Suffolk, 7-0, earning their first CNE victory of the year.
