Cyr, Eves Go For Five Points Each In First Conference Win Over Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. (March 25, 2026) – The Western New England women's lacrosse team took down the Leopards of Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday night from Sweeney Field, seeing Allison Cyr and Lina Eves pick up five points each to lead the Golden Bears in the win.

Records:
  • Western New England: 5-4, 1-1 CNE
  • Wentworth Institute of Technology: 3-5, 0-3 CNE
How it Happened:

First Quarter:
  • Western New England scored a pair of goals in the opening four minutes of the game to quickly get on top of the Leopards. Lyndsey Bunnell picked up her 10th goal of the season to open the contest, followed by the 21st of the season from Lina Eves, both goals assisted by Allison Cyr, giving the Blue and Gold a quick 2-0 lead in the game.
  • The Golden Bears continued their strong attack and tested the Wentworth defense and goalkeeper, with Lily Cohen making two saves before Eves was able to score the third WNE goal at the 7:18 mark of the quarter, to extend the lead to three, 3-0.
  • Wentworth scored with 55 seconds remaining in the opening quarter when Sydney Vega scored her 12th of the season, the only goal for the Leopards in the opening frame. Western New England had an 11-4 shot advantage in the quarter. Emily Picolla made two saves between the pipes in the opening 15 minutes. WNE picked up seven ground balls.
Second Quarter:
  • The Golden Bears continued their dominance in the second quarter. Just 45 seconds into the quarter, Allison Cyr netted her first goal of the night and sixth of the season, giving WNE a 4-1 lead. Scoring continued when Lina Eves picked up a pass from Lyndsey Bunnell and fired it past WIT's Cohen, extending the WNE lead. With 10:50 remaining in the frame, Ella Henry found twine for her 19th goal of the season on an assist from Sydney Miles, seeing WNE take a 6-1 advantage.
  • Following a Wentworth timeout, the Leopards were able to get their first goal of the quarter when Grace Del Pilar scored her 18th goal of the year with 6:10 left. Wentworth had three chances to continue their scoring, but the Golden Bears defense proved to be too strong, forcing a pair of Wentworth turnovers.
  • With 1:12 to play in the quarter, the Golden Bears added another strike when Henry had her second of the game, this time coming on an assist from Samantha Montecalvo, giving WNE a 7-2 lead at halftime.  The Golden Bears outshot Wentworth 6-4 in the second quarter and 5-3 on goal.
Third Quarter:
  • Western New England dominated the offense in the third quarter, adding two more goals to their tally. Lina Eves picked up an unassisted strike just 1:29 into the quarter. Shortly after, Allison Cyr continued her impressive night by adding a free-position goal at the 9:25 mark, giving the Golden Bears a 9-2 lead.
  • Western New England had several chances to extend the lead, taking ten total shots, six on goal, in the quarter, but hit the post twice and saw WIT's Cohen pick up four saves in the frame. The Golden Bears took the 9-2 lead into the fourth quarter.
  • WNE outshot Wentworth 10-1 in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
  • Two goals in the opening 1:44 of the fourth quarter iced the game in favor of WNE, who took a commanding 11-2 lead. Lina Eves netted her fifth goal of the night to open the frame, while Ella Henry picked up her third strike of the game, giving the Golden Bears a nine-goal lead.
