Clark Takes Down Baseball In Eight, 13-3

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 22, 2026) – In a game that saw the hosting Cougars of Clark University hit four home runs, the Western New England baseball team could not overcome an early six-run deficit and fell on the road in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 13-3, dropping its second
game of the week.

How it Happened:

First Inning:
  • The Golden Bears left two runners on base in the first inning after Tyler Waterbury and Ryan Montini took walks, but Western New England was unable to capitalize in the opening frame. 
  • Clark put a four-spot up in the bottom of the inning as Connor Flynn gave up two home runs in the inning, both two-run shots, as Michael Soares and Myles Fournier went yard, which gave the Cougars the 4-0 lead early. 
Second Inning:
  • Clark picked up another home run to start the bottom of the second inning to take a commanding 6-0 lead after two innings, when Michael Salzillo launched the third home run of the game for the Cougars, putting Clark ahead 6-0. 
Third Inning:
  • Waterbury took his second walk of the game to open the third inning as the Golden Bears looked to rally but were dropped down quickly following the walk. 
  • Michael Salzillo hit his second home run of the game and fourth of the afternoon for Clark, this time coming off Connor Slifer, giving the Cougars a 7-0 lead. 
Fifth Inning:
  • Western New England got on the board for the first time in the top of the fifth inning, picking up a pair of runs. Tyler Kornacki opened the inning with a double, quickly followed by an RBI double from Ryan Montini to give Western New England its first run, trailing 7-1. Noah Schermerhorn grounded out with Montini on third base to score another WNE run, trailing 7-2. 
Sixth Inning:
  • Clark's first runs that didn't come off a home run came in the bottom of the sixth inning off Jason Pinsonnault when Bennett Hewett singled in a run to give Clark an 8-2 lead. Cole Camara then followed with a two-RBI double to give the Cougars a 10-2 advantage after six innings. 
Seventh Inning:
  • Western New England grabbed one run back in the seventh inning after Connor Cowern produced an RBI groundout to score Ryan Montini, who got aboard on a walk and advanced on a hit by pitch to Corey Kilroy and a fielder's choice to Noah Schermerhorn.
  • Clark got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Joseph Winakor singled after a leadoff triple from Myles Fournier off Jaret Sarrantonio, giving the Cougars an 11-3 lead after seven frames. 
Eighth Inning:
  • The Cougars put up two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to go up by ten runs, and the game would end there. Nate Ullman picked up an RBI double while Alfonso Jalil had the game-ending single off Gabe Baber, as the Golden Bears were dropped by a final score of 13-3.

  • The Golden Bears look to get back on the right side in Conference of New England action this Saturday, April 25, when they host a doubleheader against Gordon College beginning at 12:00 PM.
