SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 29, 2026) – The Western New England baseball team got timely hitting, three hits, including a home run, from
Jack Gamache, leading the Golden Bears past the Fitchburg State University Falcons by a final score of 11-3 on Wednesday afternoon.

How it Happened:
Second Inning:
- The Golden Bears began the game with the first run, coming in the bottom of the second frame after Connor Cowern and Greg Nivison led off with singles. With one out, Antonio Galizia took the first pitch he saw back up the middle to drive in Cowern, putting Western New England on top 1-0 after the inning.
Fourth Inning:
- Connor Flynn tossed the opening three innings for the Golden Bears, giving up just two hits and a walk, while striking out five. Todd Grammatico replaced Flynn in the fourth, getting a strikeout and a pair of flyouts to end the inning quickly.
- Western New England picked up seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-0 lead. Greg Nivison was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Jack Gamache and Ryan Montini then picked up RBI singles for the Golden Bears to add on to the lead in the inning. The runs continued for the Golden Bears when Connor Cowern took a bases-loaded walk, while Greg Nivison (2 RBI) and Alex Grenier picked up hits to score more for WNE, giving Western New England a commanding 8-0 lead.
Fifth Inning:
- Fitchburg State got two runs back in the top of the fifth inning off Kyle Welsh when Tyler Fronck picked up an RBI double, followed by a sacrifice fly from Joseph Abt, as the Falcons got within six, 8-2.
- Western New England responded with one in the bottom of the frame when Jack Gamache lifted out his first home run of the season and third of his career, putting the Golden Bears back ahead by seven, 9-2.
Sixth Inning:
- Two more runs for the Golden Bears came in the bottom of the sixth inning as an error from the Fitchburg State pitcher brought home Connor Cowern on a failed pickoff attempt, while Greg Nivison ended up scoring on a wild pitch, seeing the Golden Bears take an 11-2 lead after six innings.
Ninth Inning:
- Greg Nivison finished out the game on the mound for the Golden Bears in the ninth inning, giving up a run, but it would not be enough for the Falcons, as the Golden Bears came up with an 11-3 victory.
Inside the Lines:
- Jack Gamache saw his bat come alive in the game, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, including his first home run of the season.
- Ryan Montini, Connor Cowern, and Greg Nivison all contributed two hits each for WNE in the win.
- Western New England used eight pitchers in the game, starting with Connor Flynn, who tossed three innings, giving up two hits and a walk, while striking out five. Todd Grammatico, who got the win, went an inning, striking out one, while Kyle Welsh, Tyler Curtis, Lucas Kamoen, Brody Rogers, Jacob Dudley, and Greg Nivison were all used in the contest.
- WNE held off Fitchburg in seven of nine innings played.
- The Golden Bears improve to 4-0 all-time against the Falcons dating back to 2004. The 11 runs scored are the most by the Golden Bears in a single game against FSU.
