Wojtowicz, Noel, And The Golden Bear Defense Hold The Hawks To Four Goals, WNE Soars To 11-4 Victory

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 3, 2026) – The Golden Bears welcomed the Hawks to town for a rematch of last season's CNE quarterfinal matchup. After a slow start, the Golden Bears would follow the lead of Jacob Roy, as usual, and jump out to a 7-2 lead at halftime. That was a lead that WNE would not give up. They did not let up a third-quarter goal and would hold the Hawks to two goals in the fourth to grab an 11-4 win behind a hat trick from Jacob Roy, and twelve saves on sixteen shots on goal from Jeffrey Wojtowicz.

Records:
Western New England: 7-5 (4-0)
Roger Williams University: 4-8 (2-2)

How it Happened:
First Quarter:
  • The teams would get a feel for the game early, but once the clock got past six minutes into the contest, the teams started to heat up offensively. Jacob Roy got the goal-scoring started with a man-up goal at 8:43 left in the first. It was answered 13 seconds later by Reece Moore, who got a pass from David Rizzo.
  • After that Hawks' goal, it was all WNE. Logan Proctor scored first off a Max Rudgers assist. WNE led 2-1. Then, two goals within 1:11 with under three minutes left in the first, saw WNE take a 4-1 lead into the second quarter. Josh Gagnon and Logan Proctor scored the goals. Jacob Roy and TJ Dalicandro had the assists, respectively.
  • The first quarter saw a shaky start to the contest, but the Golden Bears would end the quarter on top in stats and scoreline. WNE had more shots (13-11), shots on goal (7-4), and ground balls (10-5). RWU had more faceoff wins (4-2), and both teams had three saves.
Second Quarter:
  • The second saw the Hawks get on the board first, 2:34 into it. Caleb McKeon scored off a Connor Russell assist. It was answered a minute and a half later by Max Rudgers. Logan Proctor found Rudgers for the goal.
  • WNE would continue their pressure but would hit the crossbar before they found their second of the quarter. Jacob Roy scored, unassisted, with 5:24 left. As the clock wound down at the end of the second, David Noel would clear the ball, and Anthony Gesino would find Jacob Roy, who scored from the other side of Springfield to make the score 7-2 at halftime.
  • The stats favored WNE at halftime. They led in shots (23-17), shots on goal (11-8), caused turnovers (6-1), saves (6-4), and ground balls (24-16). RWU had more faceoff wins (6-4).
Third Quarter:
  • The third saw action go back and forth between the teams. WNE would eventually extend the lead off a Thomas Labbe goal with 7:24 left in the quarter. Dylan Nardone then found the netting less than a minute later to extend the WNE lead to 9-2 on his tenth goal of the season. Kevin Morina assisted with the goal.
  • With 1:41 left in the third, Thomas Labbe found the back of the goal for the twelfth time this season. It was an unassisted goal to give WNE a 10-2 lead.
  • That lead was taken into the fourth quarter. It was another successful quarter for the Golden Bears, with the team having more shots (11-5) and shots on goal (6-2). They also had more faceoff wins (3-1) and ground balls (13-5). RWU had more saves (3-2).
Fourth Quarter:
  • It took 3:50 to get a goal in the fourth quarter between the two teams. However, it was the Hawks who got on the scoreboard first. Ethan Mahoney found the goal unassisted. His third goal of the season. WNE still led 10-3.
  • Logan Jenkins answered just over a minute later on an unassisted goal, and WNE regained the eight-goal lead. However, the Hawks hit back with a Reece Moore goal. His second of the game. The score was 11-4, and that is how it would stay after a goal was called out for a crease violation by the Hawks.
  • The final stats of the contest showed the Golden Bears ahead in shots (39-32), shots on goal (21-16), ground balls (44-25), saves (12-10), caused turnovers (10-5), and faceoff wins (10-8).
Inside the Lines:
  • The Golden Bears took the conference contest 11-4.
  • Jacob Roy and Logan Proctor led the Golden Bears with four points each.
  • Roy led the goal-scoring efforts with a hat trick of goals.
  • Caleb McKeown and Reece Moore led the Hawks with two points each.
  • Jeffrey Wojtowicz led the Golden Bears to a win with twelve saves on sixteen shots on goal.
