Golden Bears Fight Past UMass-Boston, 5-2

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 7, 2026) – The Western New England men's tennis team claimed a victory on Tuesday evening from Forest Park Tennis Courts, coming up with a 5-2 victory over the Beacons of UMass-Boston, picking up four wins in singles play and earning the doubles point to come away with a win in the match.

How it Happened:

In a battle on the cold and windy courts, Western New England picked up the win in doubles action after taking wins in the first and second doubles matches, leading 1-0 after the doubles session. Colby Esposito and Michel Abizaid Nunez combined for a 7-5 win over William Kubinec and Thomas Ameral in the top spot. Quinn Northrop and Eston Fowler earned a 6-4 win for WNE in the second doubles pairing over Mario Pangione and Dominik Dwyer, earning WNE the opening point of the match. Kyle Poccia and Connor Lord fought to a 7-5 score but fell in the match to Sam Tavassoli Hojati and Joseph Malone.

In singles play, a pair of quick finishes had the Golden Bears continuing their winning ways in the match. Eston Fowler led the way for WNE with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over UMB's Ameral, while Michel Abizaid Nunez finished with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Hojati, seeing WNE take a 3-0 lead in the match. Quinn Northrop had a close opening set win, 6-4, before coming up with Western New England's winning point in the match, earning a 6-2 win in the second set to win the second position singles match. Kyle Poccia finished off the wins for WNE in the fifth singles match, needing three sets to come up with a 6-1, 4-6, 10-3 win, as the Golden Bears
stopped their losing skid and came up with a 5-2 win.
