SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Junior guard Jon Godbout (Bristol, CT) scored a game high 25 points and sophomore forward Jim Bayne (Bristol, CT) added 18 points and 10 rebounds for his eighth double double of the season as Western New England College defeated visiting Rivier College, 79-69, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game.

Senior forward Anthony Charbatji (Attleboro, MA) contributed 16 points, including the 1000th of his career in becoming the 17th player in the program's history to reach the milestone. Charbatji also had five rebounds and five assists.

Western New England College (9-6, 6-3) led 38-29 at half-time before Rivier started the second half with a 9-0 run to tie the contest. With the score tied at 57-57, Godbout had a three-point play with 6:25 remaining that gave the Golden Bears the lead for good.

The Raiders (5-9, 1-6) pulled within 62-61 before WNEC went on an 11-2 run for a 73-63 lead following Godbout's three-pointer with 3:22 left in the contest. Godbout, who had 20 points in a win over Southern Vermont on Thursday, made 9-of-16 shots from the field and tied his career high with five steals.

Sophomore guard John McMahon (Somerville, MA) led four Raiders in double figures with 18 points. He also had five rebounds and five assists. Freshman forward Jeff Carpenter (Meredith, NH) had a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds (he was 6-of-8 from the field). Freshman guard John McAllen (S. Berwick, ME) chipped in with 12 points off the bench while junior center Brian Stice (Granby, MA) had 10 points (8-for-8 from the foul line) and nine rebounds in a reserve role.
