Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Junior center Lisa Masella (Newtown, CT) scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season as Western New England College ran its winning streak to nine games with a 79-66 victory over visiting Albertus Magnus College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game.
Masella also added a career high six assists as the Golden Bears improved their record to 12-4 overall while remaining unbeaten in the GNAC with a 5-0 mark.
Western New England College had five players scoring in double figures for the first time this season.
Senior forward Shelley Everson (Plainville, CT) scored 13 points (making 6-of-7 shots from the field), as did freshman point guard Megan Ferguson (Plainville, CT) who was 7-of-8 from the foul line.
Sophomore guard Laura Booth (Chicopee, MA) scored all 10 of her points in the second half while freshman guard Tiffany DeRosa (Hamden, CT) contributed 10 points off the bench. DeRosa made all four shots from the field, including both three-point attempts.
The 79 points was a season high for the Golden Bears who shot 50.9% from the floor, their second best effort of the season.
Senior guard Tara Cruz (Wallingford, CT) led three Albertus Magnus players scoring in double figures with 18 points while pulling down a team high seven rebounds. She was 5-of-8 from the field and 8-of-9 from the foul line.
Western New England College led 35-23 at half-time after holding the Falcons to only 30.8% shooting from the field. Albertus Magnus stayed in the game by shooting 67.9% from the floor (19-of-28) after intermission, but couldn't get any closer than seven points early in the second half.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Junior tri-captain Lisa Masella (Newtown, CT) was honored Tuesday (Feb. 1) as the Western New England College Female Athlete-of-the-Week.
A junior center, Masella averaged 11.7 points and 9.3 rebounds in a 3-0 week as the Golden Bears (11-4) ran their winning streak to eight games. She also shot 50% (14-for-28) from the field.
Masella had a double double with 12 points and 14 rebounds at Western Connecticut, 13 points and eight rebounds at Suffolk, and 10 points and six rebounds against Norwich. She is a communications major.
