EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Western New England College's women's soccer team wasn't going to allow a little rain to interfere with their match towards the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoffs.

The Golden Bears used a pair of first half goals by sophomore Danielle Matte (Nashua, NH) and freshman Shivaun Wheeler (Southington, CT) to post a 2-0 victory over Johnson & Wales Sunday in a key conference match at Pierce Field.

Junior Jen Woishnis (Chicopee, MA) and freshman Melissa DaCruz (Ludlow, MA) had assists on the goals. Junior Marisa Sullivan (Halesite, NY) made three saves.

Western New England College improved its record to 7-4-3 and stayed perfect in the GNAC with a 5-0 mark. Johnson & Wales falls to 8-5 and 5-2 in the conference.

The match was postponed Saturday after a time change two days earlier because of heavy rain.
