Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Freshman running back Jordan Capitanio (Torrington, CT) rushed for 164 yards and scored two touchdowns as Western New England College ended its season on a positive note with a 30-7 win over visiting Nichols College on “Senior Day†at Golden Bear Stadium.
The Golden Bears finished with a 3-6 record and 2-4 mark in the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Boyd Division. The Bison ended the year winless at 0-9 (0-6 Boyd Division).
Western New England College took a 3-0 lead at the 8:05 mark of the first quarter on a 34-yard field goal by freshman James Farrell (East Longmeadow, MA). Nichols came right back to take its only lead at 7-3 when freshman halfback Josh Harris (Whitinsville, MA) ran two yards for a score with 1:22 left in the period.
WNEC took a 10-7 lead at half-time when Capitanio tallied on a 37-yard run 1:04 into the second quarter.
The Golden Bears dominated the second half as sophomore quarterback Pat Murphy (Kensington, NH) fired a 63-yard scoring pass to sophomore wide receiver Kevin Miculcy (Greenwich, CT) for a 17-7 advantage with 12:11 left in the third quarter. Miculcy finished with four receptions for 102 yards, ending the season with 60 receptions and 756 yards (both school records).
Capitanio then recorded his 12th touchdown of the year on a 40-yard run at the 4:58 mark of the third period.
Senior wide receiver Tyrell Wellington (Bloomfield, CT) added the first touchdown of his career on a four-yard with 12:44 left in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
WNEC out-gained Nichols by a 369 to 214 margin and had four interceptions for a school record 22 this season.
Sophomore halfback Judley Sanon (Dayville, CT) led the Bison with 57 yards on 18 carries while Harris finished with 38 yards on 11 carries.
