SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Wheaton College scored a goal in each half to knock Western New England College from the unbeaten ranks with a 2-0 non-conference victory in a hard-fought men's soccer match Tuesday at Suprenant Field.

Freshman Dan Lane (Dedham, MA) tallied in the 29th minute and classmate Mathurin Coulibaly (Ivory Coast, Africa) added an insurance goal in the 78th minute as the Lyons evened their record at 2-2.

Western New England College (5-1) had a couple of scoring opportunities in the first half, but couldn’t convert. Junior goalkeeper Chris Wilk (Derry, NH) had two saves. The Golden Bears, fifth in the New England Division III rankings, had an edge in both shots (10-9) and corner kicks (11-3.

Sophomore Dan Chong (Miami, FL) and junior Dennis Durao (West Hartford, CT) contributed assists while junior goalkeeper Matt Pachniuk (Newtown, CT) played a strong game making seven saves.

The Golden Bears played the contest without leading scorer junior Evan Heymann (Ipswich, MA) who is out with an injury.
