CASTLETON, Vt. - Western New England College field hockey coach Sarah Kelly had a feeling that Castleton State would give her team a tough test Saturday and she was right.

Freshman Caitlin Gelber (Centereach, NY) tallied a first half goal that proved to be the difference as the Golden Bears held on for a 1-0 win in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match-up.

"We knew it was going to be a good game because Castleton has one of the most improved teams in the conference," said Kelly whose team bounced back from a similar loss at Mount Holyoke on Thursday.

The Mountaineers had a 12-10 edge on shots, but WNEC senior goalie Jillian Brown (Plymouth, MA) only needed to make two saves.

With the win, Western New England College raises its record to 7-2 and 2-0 in the conference.
