Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Senior guard Jon Godbout (Bristol, CT) scored a game high 17 points and junior center Deon Thomas (Albany, NY) came off the bench to add 12 points and six rebounds as Western New England College posted a 58-41 victory over Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) leader Norwich University Thursday.
The Golden Bears even their record at 8-8 and 6-3 in the conference. The Cadets drop to 13-4 and 9-2 in the GNAC.
The teams battled to a 25-25 half-time tie before Norwich took its only lead of the second half at 26-25 following a free throw by junior forward Rene Cheatham (Cincinnati, OH) at the 18:21 mark.
Western New England College then went on a 16-2 run for a 41-28 advantage following a basket by Godbout with 10:47 left in the contest. The Cadets could get no closer than nine (46-37) down the stretch,
Cheatham finished with 12 points and five rebounds while sophomore forward Jamel Bedford (Queens, NY) contributed 12 points and a game high eight rebounds coming off the bench.
Western New England College, which was playing its first home game since January 14, has won six of its last seven outings. Freshman forward Kyle Fredette (Wallingford, VT) chipped in with five points and six rebounds for the Golden Bears.
The 41 points was a season low for Norwich who has lost two of its last three contests after a 12-game winning streak.
