Johnson & Wales hands Western New England College first conference loss

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Freshman forward Kelly Warner (Mystic, CT) scored the game-winner in the 61st minute as visiting Johnson & Wales University defeated Western New England College 1-0 Saturday (Oct. 14) to remain the only undefeated team in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).

This was a rematch of last year’s GNAC Tournament championship match won by JWU by the same score at Suprenant Field.

It was the second goal of the season for Warner who was playing in only her third game of the year.

Western New England College had a 17-11 advantage in shots, but couldn’t find the net as freshman goalkeeper Kate Nast (Quakertown, PA) compiled 10 saves for the Wildcats.

Senior goalkeeper Marisa Sullivan (Halesite, NY) stopped seven shots for the Golden Bears.

Johnson & Wales is now 8-6 overall and 7-0 in the conference.

Western New England College, which was undefeated in league play entering the match, falls to .500 at 6-6-2 and 3-1-2 in the GNAC.
