DUDLEY, Mass. - Western New England College couldn't convert several scoring opportunities in dropping a 26-13 decision at Nichols College Saturday afternoon (Nov. 4) in a NEFC Boyd Division contest that was the final game of the season for both squads.
Junior wide receiver Kevin Miculcy (Greenwich, CT) caught six passes for 117 yards to set Golden Bears' records for receiving yards in a season (802) and career (1,903). He also set another school mark for receptions in a season with 62, breaking his old record of 60 set last year. Miculcy is the program's career leader with 140 receptions and second with 14 touchdowns.
Sophomore running back Jordan Capitanio (Torrington, CT) ran for a game-high 99 yards on 15 carries and scored on a six-yard run in the second quarter that cut the margin to 14-7. The Bison scored on the next possession going 70 yards on eight plays and led 20-7 at the break.
Freshman quarterback Justin Walz (Groton, CT) completed 25-of-44 passes for 294 yards, but suffered three interceptions and three sacks.
Nichols (5-4, 4-3 Boyd) upped its margin to 26-7 in the fourth quarter before senior free safety Jim Kantany (East Longmeadow, MA) returned a fumble two yards for the Golden Bears' final score. Kantany also had nine tackles in the game.
Senior strong safety Brent Dube (Lewiston, ME) led Western New England College with 10 tackles and an interceptions.
The Golden Bears out-gained the Bison by a 381 to 309 margin, but had trouble in the red zone coming up empty following a missed goal, and turning the ball over on downs once, and with an interception.
Still, it was a successful season for Western New England College who finished with a 5-4 record (3-4 Boyd mark) that tied the school record for wins.
