Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Sophomore midfielder Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT) scored six goals as Western New England College knocked Worcester State College from the unbeaten ranks with a convincing 15-4 victory in a New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) game Saturday at Golden Bear Stadium.
Devine tallied her first goal only 10 seconds into the contest and had four scores in the opening 30 minutes to help the Golden Bears take an 8-1 lead at intermission.
Junior attack player Jess Vogel (Tonawanda, NY) and sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Zangle (Wingdale, NY) each added three goals for the Golden Bears who are 6-4 overall and 3-0 in NEWLA competition.
Senior midfielders Alia Andrews (Westfield, MA) and Alyson Nowell (Feeding Hills, MA), and junior attack player Audrey Kelton (Wilder, VT) scored the other goals for Western New England College. Junior defender Lauren Archambault (Westfield, MA) had eight ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Worcester State freshman attack player Shannon Feeley (West Springfield, MA) had two goals while junior midfielder Ann Clark (Worcester, MA) had a goal and assist. Clark entered the week as the top NCAA Division III player in points per game (9.29 avg.) and goals (6.57).
The Lancers fall to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the NEWLA.
Western New England College coach Aimee Klepacki noted the fine defensive effort of freshman Michelle Thompson (Wilbraham, MA) who guarded Clark for most of the game.
“Our goal was to try and shut down Clark because she is such a strong offensive player and Michelle did an excellent job that exceeded my expectations,†said Klepacki.
