Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. â€" Western New England College scored on its first four shots of the game en route to an easy 21-3 victory over visiting Elms to remain undefeated in the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA).
Sophomore midfielder Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT) celebrated her 20th birthday by scoring seven goals, including the first one only 11 seconds into the contest. Devine, the NEWLA Player-of-the-Week, tallied her second goal 28 seconds later as the Golden Bears went on to take a 13-2 lead at intermission.
Senior midfielder Alyson Nowell (Feeding Hills, MA) contributed three goals while senior attack player Shannon Montgomery (North Babylon, NY) had two goals and an assist.
Junior attack player Jess Vogel (Tonawanda, NY), sophomore attacker player Julianna Mulroy (Wellesley, MA), and sophomore midfielder Kaitlin Zangle (Wingdale, NY), meanwhile, chipped in with two goals apiece. Senior midfielder Alia Andrews (Westfield, MA), who recently returned to the line-up following an injury, had a goal and assist.
Western New England College also had 34 ground balls in the game with Devine (10) and freshman midfielder Michelle Thompson (Wilbraham, MA) (7) leading the way. Andrews, junior defender Lauren Archambault (Westfield, MA), and sophomore defender Emilie Donka (White River Junction, VT) each recorded three caused turnovers. Archambault also had two draw controls.
Junior attack player Carrie Allard (Springfield, MA) scored all three goals for the Blazers who fall to 1-11 overall and 0-4 in the NEWLA. Senior goalie Sheila Murphy (Holyoke, MA) finished with 20 saves.
