SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England College women's soccer team maintained its top spot in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) with a 5-0 victory over visiting Nichols College Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 11) at Suprenant Field.

Freshman Heather Mortell (Webster, MA) tallied two goals as the Golden Bears improved their record to 12-2-1 overall and 9-0-1 in the conference.

Mortell gave the hosts a 1-0 lead with her 11th goal of the season in the 16th minute. Sophomore Kelly Murnane (Cheshire, CT) netted her first goal of the year on a penalty kick in the 37th minute as Western New England College took a 2-0 lead at intermission.

Mortell added her second score in the 50th minute before goals by sophomore Kristen Culver (Westhampton, MA) and senior Danielle Matte (Nashua, NH) completed the scoring.

Nichols junior goalkeeper Sarah Levesque (Ludlow, MA) stopped 11 shots. The Bison fall to 7-6 overall and 4-5 in TCCC.

This was the fourth consecutive shutout and 11th of the season for Western New England College who have outscored opponents by a 35-9 margin.
