Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The No. 16 Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team ran its winning streak to nine games with a hard-earned 1-0 victory over upset-minded Western New England College in a non-conference match Thursday afternoon (Oct. 18) at Suprenant Field.

Junior Catherine Nathans (New Fairfield, CT) notched the only goal of the game only 59 seconds into the contest when she headed the ball into the net off a cross from senior Molly Desjarlais (North Windham, CT).

The Golden Bears settled down after that and had four shots in the game, all in the second half while the Colonials (ranked third in New England) finished with seven shots.

WestConn senior goalkeeper Jenna Capellieri (Stratford, CT) recorded three saves for her eighth shutout of the season. The Colonials now have a 13-1-1 record.

Western New England sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Covino (Bristol, CT) played another solid game stopping four shots.

The Golden Bears, who had a 10-0-2 mark in their last 12 matches, fall to 12-3-2.
