Western New England College takes advantage of own goal for win over UNE

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Top-seeded Western New England College took advantage of an own goal for a 1-0 victory over eighth-seeded University of New England in a quarterfinal round match of The Commonwealth Coast
Conference (TCCC) Men's Soccer Tournament Saturday afternoon (Oct. 27).

The Golden Bears were credited with the goal when junior Dan Hare (Staatsburg, NY) directed a cross in the direction of junior Dale Totman (Conway, MA) that was inadvertently headed into the Nor'easters' net by sophomore back Brandon Gormley (Gettysburg, PA) in the 59th minute.

WNEC out-shot the visitors by a 12-4 margin in winning its seventh one-goal decision of the season. Senior goalkeeper Steve Hennessey (Essex Junction, VT) made two saves for the Golden Bears.

Sophomore keeper Derek Poulin (Scarborough, ME) had a solid outing stopping seven shots.

University of New England ends its season with a 6-10-1 record.
