WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior Audrey Kelton (Wilder, VT) tallied four goals with an assist to lead Western New England College to a 13-7 victory over host Worcester State College Saturday (April 7) in a battle of unbeaten New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) teams. This also was a re-match of last year's NEWLA Championship game won by the Golden Bears.
Sophomore Lindsey Fenton (Amherst, MA) netted three goals for the winners while juniors Jill Caracciolo (Burnt Hills, NY) and Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT) each scored twice. Freshmen Cougar Moynihan (South Glastonbury, CT) and Rosalie Rodriquez (Norwalk, CT) had the other goals while junior Julianna Mulroy (Wellesley, MA) contributed two assists. Sophomore goalie Brie Sylvia (West Tisbury, MA) finished with 11 saves.
With the game tied at 2-2, Western New England College scored the next five goals for a 7-2 lead at half-time. The Golden Bears extended their margin to 9-2 before the Lancers scored two times to get within five at 9-4. Fenton, Caracciolo, and Moynihan then broke the contest open with goals for a 12-4 advantage with a little more than 15 minutes left in the game.
Ann Clark led WSC with three goals while Megan Rosborough added two goals. Lyndsey Nunes stopped 12 shots.
Western New England College improves its record to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the NEWLA. The Golden Bears also have a four-game winning streak. Worcester State falls to 4-3 and 3-1.
