SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - In a battle of city rivals, Springfield College defeated visiting Western New England College 18-8 in a non-league women's lacrosse game Tuesday night (May 1) at Benedum Field.

Sophomore Lindsey Fenton (Amherst, MA) scored four goals to lead the Golden Bears while junior Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT) tallied twice. Sophomore Michelle Thompson (Wilbraham, MA) added a goal and assist while senior Audrey Kelton (Wilder, VT) handed out two assists.

Western New England College stayed close in the opening nine minutes trailing only 3-2 before the Pride scored nine straight times to take a commanding 12-2 advantage at half-time.

Ashley Martell led Springfield with five goals and four assists while Alaina Schnitzer also netted five goals. The Pride ends its season with a 10-8 record.

Western New England College (13-5) will host Worcester State at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (May 5) in the championhip game of the New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Tournament.
