Keene State overcomes slow start to defeat Western New England College

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Keene State overcame a slow start by scoring three second-half goals for a 4-1 victory over host Western New England College in a non-league field hockey game Tuesday night (Sept. 11).

The Golden Bears jumped to a 1-0 lead just 3:22 into the game when senior Sarah McQuarrie (Windham, ME) netted her first goal of the season. 

Freshman Chelsea Blackmer (Boylston, MA) tied the contest for Keene State with a goal at the 21:10 mark.

The second half belonged to the Owls who tallied their remaining goals in a 5:18 stretch to pull away.

Senior Kat Trimmer (Hanover, NH) put the visitors ahead with a goal at 46:10, then freshman Amy Dolce (Windham, NH) added her first collegiate goal just 1:39 later. Senior Marissa Boccaccio (Lyme, CT) fired home a shot off a corner at 51:28 to complete the scoring.

Trimmer also collected two assists as Keene State improved its record to 3-1.

Senior Jennifer McDougall (Avon, CT) had one save for the Owls while senior Emilie Donka (White River Junction, VT) stopped nine shots for the Golden Bears who remained winless at 0-4.

Keene State had a 17-3 advantage in shots and 8-3 edge in penalty corners.
