PAXTON, Mass. – Freshman Heather Mortell (Webster, MA) had a goal and assist as the Western New England College women's soccer team defeated Anna Maria College 3-1 in its first match as a member of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 12).

Senior Danielle Matte (Nashua, NH) gave the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute (with an assist from Mortell) before Jenessa Cabrera tallied a goal in he 24th minute to tie the contest at halftime.

Mortell netted the game-winner in the 66th minute with an assist from junior Shivaun Wheeler (Southington, CT) before freshman Alicia D'Ambra closed out the scoring with her first collegiate goal in the 73rd minute.

Sophomore Jess Covino (Bristol, CT) stopped three shots for the Golden Bears while Karine Almeida compiled 15 saves for the Amcats.

Western New England College is now 4-2 overall while Anna Maria falls to 1-2-1 (0-1-1 in TCCC).
