Western New England College and Wheaton battle to double overtime tie

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – In a hard-fought contest between two of the top teams in the region, Western New England College and Wheaton College battled to a 1-1 double overtime match in men's soccer Thursday afternoon (Sept. 13) at Suprenant Field.

The contest was scoreless after the opening half until freshman Josh Solomon (Acton, MA) notched a goal with an assist from classmate Kyle Sye (Acton, MA) in the 60th minute. It was the third goal of the season for Solomon who was a teammate of Sye's at Acton-Boxboro Regional High School.

The Golden Bears tied the game in the 85th minute following the first goal of the season by sophomore Nick Zarka (Farmington, CT) with an assist from classmate Justin Martins (Ludlow, MA).

Western New England College (3-1-1) had a slim 11-10 advantage in shots and both squads attempted five corner kicks.

The Golden Bears are eighth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) New England Division III poll. The Lyons (3-1-2) are tied for sixth with Babson.
