Western New England College falls to city rival Springfield in non-conference meeting

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Visiting Springfield College won two doubles matches in posting a 5-2 victory over host Western New England College in non-conference women's tennis action Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 26).

For the second straight day, both the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches weren't completed because of darkness.

The Pride took the No. 1 doubles flight by a 9-7 decision after rallying from a 6-1 deficit and came away with an 8-5 decision at the second position.

WNEC junior Ashley Sunderland (Commack, NY) continued her fine play by capturing the No. 3 singles match in straight sets (6-1, 6-0).

Senior Aimee Schapp (Torrington, CT) and junior Nicole Freed (Jersey Shore, PA) posted an 8-6 decision at the third doubles position.

The Golden Bears saw their record drop to 4-2 while Springfield improves to 2-3.
