NEWPORT, R.I. – Senior guard Jen Dabrowski (Plainville, CT) poured in a career high 38 points, including 12 in the final 3:12, to lead the Western New England College women's basketball team to a 71-60 victory over host Salve Regina University Saturday afternoon (Jan. 26) in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action.
Dabrowski made 12-of-22 shots from the field (with one three-pointer) and was 13-of-15 from the foul line. She also pulled down four rebounds, along with three assists and three blocked shots.
Dabrowski broke her old mark of 34 points set this past December 1 against Westfield State in the Pioneer Valley Women's Hoop Classic and moved into fourth place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,365 points, ahead of Erin Marino '01 (1,327).
Senior guard Tiffany DeRosa (Hamden, CT) also played an important role by firing in a season high 17 points as the Golden Bears raised their record to 9-7 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
It was a back and forth opening half with Salve Regina holding a six-point lead at the 9:48 mark before WNEC came back to take a 34-29 advantage at half-time thanks to 13 points by both Dabrowski and DeRosa.
The contest was tied at 38-38 with 16:21 remaining when the Golden Bears used a 13-3 run for a 51-41 lead with just 11 minutes left in the game.
The Seahawks rallied getting within 56-53 on a free throw by senior forward Allison Moen (Yonkers, NY) with 3:48 remaining.
Dabrowski answered with six straight points to extend the margin to 62-53 with 2:08 left and the Seahawks couldn't make up the difference.
Moen had an outstanding performance leading the hosts with 15 points, 17 rebounds, and pair of blocks.
Senior guard Katie Horan (Webster, MA) and freshman guard Kimberly Horan (Webster, MA) each contributed 12 points for Salve Regina (9-7 overall, 3-2 TCCC).
Western New England College shot 41.5% from the field and 87.0% from the foul line (20-of-23) in the game and forced 27 turnovers.
Junior guard Katie Arey (Enfield, NH) had another solid outing with a team high five rebounds while freshman guard Kailah Al-Darraji (Dover, NH) chipped-in with five points and four rebounds in a reserve role.
