NEWPORT, R.I. – Sophomore Heather Mortell (Webster, MA) and junior Kristen Culver (Westhampton, MA) scored second-half goals to lead the Western New England College women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Salve Regina Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 15) at Brother Reynolds Field.

Junior goalkeeper Jessica Covino (Bristol, CT) made three saves to earn her second shutout of the season as the Golden Bears improved their record to 4-10 overall and 3-6 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).

WNEC outshot Salve Regina 10-5 in the first half, but neither team scored in the opening 45 minutes.

Mortell fired home her sixth goal of the season in the 51st minute, then Culver grabbed a loose ball sent into the box off a corner kick and netted her first goal of the year in the 65th minute.

The Golden Bears finished with a 20-6 advantage in shots.

Junior Katie Vaudrain (Pawtucket, R.I.) made nine saves for the Seahawks, who dropped to 3-11 and 2-7 in the conference.
