SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore forward Katy Vogl (Cazenovia, NY) scored three goals to lead the Western New England College field hockey team to an 8-0 victory over Regis Saturday (Oct. 4) for its first victory of the season.
Sophomore forward Aimee O'Connell (Rome, NY) added two goals with an assist that helped the Golden Bears take a 6-0 lead at the break. Her first goal came just 2:48 into the contest with an assist from freshman Emily Leech (West Suffield, CT). O'Connell the squad with 12 points (5 goals, 2 assists).
Sophomore forward Amy Hedberg (Guilford, CT) tallied her first two goals of the season in the second stanza.
Senior forward Caitlin Gelber (Centereach, NY) contributed a goal and assist for the Golden Bears who are now 1-9 overall and 1-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Fresgman goalie Lindsey Orszulak (Longmeadow, MA) had two saves for her first college shutout. Senior Kristen Tavares (Accushnet, MA) stopped nine shots for the visitors.
Western New England College held a big 25-6 shot advantage on the picture perfect afternoon at Golden Bear Stadium.
The Regis Pride remains winless at 0-12 and 0-4 in the conference.
