Western New England College can't find net in conference loss at Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. - Freshman Abby Wills (Uxbridge, MA) had a goal and assist to lead the Colby-Sawyer women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over visiting Western New England College Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 7).

The Chargers jumped to a quick 1-0 lead when freshman Andi Logan (Eliot, ME) scored just 7:06 into the contest.

Senior Julia Steese (Wilmot, NH) gave the hosts a 2-0 advantage (with an assist from Wills) with a goal in the 38th minute before Wills gave the hosts a three-goal cushion in the 75th minute.

The Golden Bears held a 17-11 edge in shots, but couldn't score until freshman Julia Hadden (North Smithfield, RI) tallied her first college goal with 30 seconds left in the match. Sophomore Shannon Pescatello (Wethersfield, CT) earned the assist.

Junior goalkeeper Jessica Covino (Bristol, CT) finished with four saves for WNEC while senior Christine Quirk (Milford, CT) played a key role in the victory with nine stops.

The Chargers are now 4-5-2 overall and 3-3 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).

Western New England College falls to 3-9 and 2-5 in the conference after suffering its third straight loss.
