Roger Williams tops Western New England College with winning goal in overtime

BRISTOL, R.I. - Junior Amanda daCunha (Wethersfield, CT) fired home the game-winner 1:40 into the second overtime period to lift second-seeded Roger Williams over seventh-seeded Western New England College 1-0 in a quarterfinal round match of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Women's Soccer Tournament Saturday (Nov. 1).

This was the Hawks' second straight 1-0 win over the Golden Bears after taking the regular season match-up three weeks ago in Bristol.

Western New England College entered the tournament with five straight shutouts over conference opponents and continued its fine late-season play with another top-flight performance.

Roger Williams held a slim 15-12 advantage in shots while 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Jessica Covino (Bristol, CT) compiled four saves for the Golden Bears while junior keeper Jen Garside (Londonderry, NH) stopped two shots for the hosts.

Western New England College ends its season with an 8-12 record.

Roger Williams improves to 16-2 and advances to meet third-seeded University of New England (a 1-0 winner over sixth-seeded Colby-Sawyer) in a semifinal match on Tuesday (Nov. 4).
