Western New England College battles back to down Gordon in TCCC contest

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT) scored four goals with an assist and junior Lindsey Fenton (Pelham, MA) netted three goals as the Western New England College women's lacrosse team posted a 12-9 victory over visiting Gordon College Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 25).

This was the third consecutive win for the Golden Bears who improved their record to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC).

Gordon (3-2) took an early 2-0 lead and led 5-4 at halftime in the well-played contest

Senior Mary Snell (Hollis, NH) gave the Fighting Scots a two-goal cushion just 25 seconds into the second stanza.

WNEC then scored five unanswered goals with Fenton tying the score at 6-6 at the 27:51 mark and firing home the go-ahead goal just 1:37 later.

Senior Kaitlin Zangle (Wingdale, NY) contributed back-to-back goals later in the half that gave the Golden Bears their biggest lead at 12-7 with 8:49 remaining in the contest. Freshman Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington, NY) also contributed two goals while sophomore Rosalie Rodriguez (Norwalk, CT) had the other score.

Snell finished with four goals and an assist for the visitors who were making their conference debut. She added six ground balls and three draw controls. Junior Annie Cameron (South Hamilton, MA) and sophomore Katie Knaus (Kensington, CT) also chipped-in with two goals with Knaus also earned an assist in the game.

Junior Danielle Zorn (Mercer Island, WA) had the other goal for the Fighting Scots. She is the daughter of former NFL quarterback and new Washington Redskins coach Jim Zorn.

Both goalies came up with several nice saves in the contest with junior Chyanne Wilson (Pearl River, NY) stopping 12 shots for Gordon and freshman Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) turning away 11 shots for Western New England College.

Juniors Erin Conn (Yorktown Heights, NY) and Kristin Miculcy (Greenwich, CT) led the WNEC defense with four caused turnovers apiece while senior Jill Caracciolo (Burnt Hills, NY) picked-up four ground balls.
