NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Western New England College women's lacrosse team ran its winning streak to four games with a 15-6 victory over host Smith College Thursday afternoon (Mar. 27).
Once again the Golden Bears utilized a balanced scoring attack that featured six players scoring goals.
Seniors Jillian Caracciolo (Burnt Hills, NY) and Kaitlin Zangle (Wingdale, NY), junior Lindsey Fenton (Pelham, MA), and freshman Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) each tallied three goals.
Zangle also had three assists, Caracciolo two, and Fenton and Barbato once each.
Senior Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT) contributed two goals while sophomore Rosalie Rodriguez (Norwalk, CT) notched the only goal.
Freshman goalie Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown heights, NY) stopped six shots.
Freshman Nicole Poli (Medfield, MA) chipped in with five caused turnovers, five ground balls, and three draw controls.
Fenton also had five draw controls while junior Erin Conn (Yorktown Heights, NY) had three caused turnovers.
Western New England College led 10-3 at halftime before the Pioneers rattled off three straight goals to start the second stanza.
It was still a four-goal game at 11-7 before the Golden Bears sealed the win with three consecutive goals capped by Devine's goal with 14:12 remaining in the game.
Senior Emily Riff (Wayzata, MN) led the Pioneers (0-3) with three goals while sophomore Michelle Walsh (Northampton, MA) scored twice. Senior goalie Sara Smith (Brooklyn, NY) finished with 23 saves (18 in the second half).
