SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Jillian Caracciolo (Burnt Hills, NY) had four goals and three assists as the Western New England College women's lacrosse team completed its regular season with a 20-11 victory over visiting Colby-Sawyer Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 22).
Senior Kayte Devine (New Fairfield, CT) and freshman Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) each added four goals and an assist as WNEC improved its record to 13-4 overall and 8-2 in its inaugural season in The Commonwealth Cost Conference.
Coach Aimee Klepacki's team will host a quarterfinal round game of the conference tournament next Tuesday (Apr. 29). This was the third straight game and fifth in their last six outings that the Golden Bears hit the 20-goal mark.
Junior Lindsay Fenton (Pelham, MA) netted three goals with an assist while senior Kaitlin Zangle (Wingdale, NY) also fired in three goals. Junior Michelle Thompson (Wilbraham, MA) chipped in with a goal and assist while sophomore Rosalie Rodriguez (Norwalk, CT) netted the other goal.
Freshman goalie Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) finished with 17 saves. Freshman Nicoli Poli (Medfield, MA) caused nine turnovers.
Western New England College held an 11-6 advantage at half-time and gradually pulled away taking an 18-10 lead on Caracciolo's final goal with 10:04 left in the contest.
Junior Allicia Murphy (North Bennington, VT) led the Chargers with four goals while senior Tara Stewart (Londonderry, NH) hit the back of the net three times. Senior Lisa Giordano (Londonderry, NH) had a goal and assist. Sophomore goalie Alicia Foss (Hardwick, VT) also stopped 17 shots.
Colby-Sawyer falls to 5-9 overall with a non-league game at Plymouth State Thursday remaining in the regular season. The Chargers are 5-5 in the conference and still alive for the playoff berth in the upcoming tournament.
Before the game, Lori Allaire (Rutland, VT), Julianna Mulroy (Wellesley, MA), Caracciolo, Devine, and Zangle, along with their parents, were honored during "Senior Day" activities.
