Box Score DUDLEY, Mass. - Junior Justin Martins (Ludlow, MA) fired-home the game-winner 4:12 into overtime to lead the Western New England College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over host Nichols Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 23) at Venditti Field.
This was the third straight win for the Golden Bears who are unbeaten in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) with a 2-0-1 mark.
Western New England College (5-1-2) took a 1-0 lead when senior Dale Totman (Conway, MA) netted his team best fifth goal of the year in the 24th minute with Martins earning the assist.
Nichols played a man-down from the 42nd minute, but came back to tie the contest when senior Guilian Correia (Lakeville, MA) scored in the 76th minute with an assist from freshman David Johnson (Canterbury, CT).
WNEC junior goalkeeper Dan Ruscigno (Wappingers Falls, NY) stopped three shots to raise his record to 4-0-1.
Junior Clayton Johnson (Williamstown, MA) made five saves for the Bison who are 3-3-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the conference.
It was a rough battle with 43 fouls (23 for WNEC and 20 for Nichols).
Earlier in the day, coach Erin Sullivan's team climbed into the weekly National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III New England rankings for the first time this season sharing the seventh spot with Norwich.
