Western New England College falls to Keene State in season opener

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman midfielder Leah Teter (Granville, MA) ended a scoreless deadlock in the 69th minute with her first college goal as visiting Keene State defeated Western New England College 3-0 at Suprenant Field Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 3).

Keene State scored all of its goals in the final 20:13 of the match to improve its record to 2-0. The Owls out shot the Golden Bears 28-6.

Junior Kendra Spencer (Petoskey, MI) launched her first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute as the Owls took a 2-0 advantage and freshman Britini Watkinson (Rochester, NY) completed the scoring with her second goal of the season in the 85th minute to seal the deal for the Owls.

Western New England College, which was making its season debut, received a fine performance from junior goalkeeper Jessica Covino (Bristol, CT) who finished with 13 saves.

Keene State junior Samantha Hirsh (Holliston, MA) stopped three shots for her second shutout.
