NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Senior quarterback
Justin Walz (Groton, CT) passed for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Western New England College football team posted a 31-9 victory over winless UMass Dartmouth Saturday night (Oct. 10) at Cressy Field.
The Golden Bears, who snapped a four-game losing streak, raised their record to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the Boyd Division of the New England Football Conference (NEFC).
WNEC took a 10-0 lead after the opening period when sophomore defensive end
Scott Wojciechowski (Adams, MA) scored on a 19-yard fumble return 2:31 into the game followed by a 29-yard field goal by senior
Jake Field (Bedminster, NJ), which was his first of the season.
Sophomore linebacker
Todd Krolikowski (Bristol, CT) set-up Wojciechowski's score with a sack and forced fumble. Krolikowski finished with a game-high 12 tackles.
Walz fired a 15-yard scoring pass to senior receiver
Rob Chiaccio (Groton, CT) (4 catches, 52 yards) to cap a 10-play, 97-yard drive at the 3:11 mark of the second quarter. Walz (15-for-24, 288 yards) finished the game with 6,104 career yards through the air.
Western New England College took a commanding 24-0 lead when Walz scored from a yard out with 6:04 left in the third period.
The Corsairs finally got on the board on a two-yard run by freshman quarterback
Brendan McNeish (Springfield, MA) with 10:25 remaining in the game. He completed 14-of-29 passes for 180 yards but suffered an interception and four sacks.
On the second play from scrimmage following the ensuing kickoff Walz hooked up with sophomore running back
Frank Scattaretico (Dobbs Ferry, NY) for an 80-yard touchdown for a 31-6 advantage. Scattaretico finished with three catches for 149 yards.
Edgar Osols kicked a 38-yard field goal for the hosts to complete the scoring.
Walz completed 14-of-23 passes for 276 yards with an interception.
Scattaretico also had a 57-yard reception to finish with 137 yards. He also rushed for 49 yards on 11 carries.

Dylan Chandler (Durham, ME) contributed 11 tackles while freshman defensive back
Corey Brown (Worcester, MA) had a pass interception.
Western New England College out gained UMD by a 361-252 margin.
UMass Dartmouth drops to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the Boyd Division.
