Castleton breaks game open in second half for victory over Western New England College

CASTLETON, Vt.
- The Castleton field hockey team broke open a close game with two goals in the second half for a 3-0 victory over visiting Western New England College Sunday afternoon (Oct. 18).

Freshman Kealy Chipman (Bellows Falls, VT) opened the scoring 23:12 into the game and it remained a one-goal contest for the more than 18 minutes until senior Kayla Masse (Rutland, VT) found the back of the net at the 41:57 mark. Senior Marie Amaral (Barre, VT) completed the scoring just 6:14 later.

The Spartans held a decisive 21-3 advantage in shots as junior goalie Siobhan Whittemore (Springfield, VT) needed to make only two saves.

Sophomore Lindsay Orszulak (Longmeadow, MA) stopped 14 shots in another solid performance for the Golden Bears.

Castleton improves its record to 5-9 after breaking a two-game losing skid.

Western New England College falls to 4-12..
