Keene State downs Western New England in double overtime in non-league match

- Freshman forward Shawn Shand (Keene, NH) knocked in the game-winner with 2:02 remaining in the second overtime period to lift Keene State to a 2-1 victory over Western New England College in a non-league men's soccer match Sunday afternoon (Oct. 18).

The Owls upped their record to 9-6 while the Golden Bears drop to 10-5-2 after having their seven-game undefeated streak ended. WNEC was 7-0-2 and didn't allow a goal during the stretch.

Sophomore midfielder Alex Larson (Williamsport, PA) gave the hosts a 1-0 lead with one second left before halftime with an assist from sophomore forward Cam Blair (Keene, NH).

Western New England College tied he contest when junior midfielder Justin Martins (Ludlow, MA) scored with 4:01 left in regulation. Senior midfielders David Fitzpatrick (Burnt Hills, NY) and Tony Rosa (Ludlow, MA) gained the assists.

WNEC senior goalkeeper Kyle Bak (Cumberland, RI) and senior Peter Kersker (Ipswich, MA) each compiled six saves.

The Golden Bears, who defeated Roger Williams 1-0 in overtime on Saturday, had a 20-15 edge in shots.

Western New England College is 2-2-2 in overtime contests this season.
