BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Western New England College men's soccer team clinched its third straight regular season title in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) with a 3-0 victory over the University of New England Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 28).
The Golden Bears scored all their goals in the opening half in raising their record to 13-5-2. WNEC finished with a 10-2-1 mark in league action.
Senior
Jason Sabia (Poughkeepsie, NY) tallied the first goal with an assist from classmate
Tony Rosa (Ludlow, MA) just eight minutes into the match.
Juniors
Alex Dos Santos (Ludlow, MA) and
Justin Martins (Ludlow, MA) added goals in the 22nd and 24th minutes, respectively.
Senior goalkeeper
Kyle Bak (Cumberland, RI) finished with seven saves in helping WNEC win for the seventh time in its last eight outings.
Junior
John Planer (Yarmouth, ME) stopped two shots in a little over 70 minutes for the Nor'easters who drop to 10-7 overall and 7-6 in the league.
Western New England College held a slight edge in shots (12-10) and corner kicks (4-3).
The two teams will meet again Saturday (Oct. 31) when top-seeded Western New England College hosts eighth-seeded UNE at 1:00 p.m. in a quarterfinal round contest of the conference tournament at Suprenant Field.
