Box Score MILTON, Mass. - The Western New England College women's lacrosse team rallied for three goals in the final 8:33 for a well-earned 11-9 victory over host Curry in its The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) opener Wednesday afternoon (March 25).
The Golden Bears, who had dropped their last two contests by two and three goals, respectively, improved to 2-3.
Senior Lindsey Fenton (Pelham, MA) had a six-point performance with five goals and an assist. She netted three goals in the opening half and added her final two goals down the stretch that helped key the victory.
Freshman Liz McRoberts (Bourne, MA) scored twice, including what proved to be the game-winner with 5:44 left in the game. She also had four draw controls and three ground balls.
The WNEC defense was exceptional in the second half holding the Colonels (who led 7-6 at halftme) scoreless the final 11:35 of the contest.
Sophomores Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) and Marisa Hebert (Saco, ME), and freshmen Katie Toomy (Northborough, MA) and Veronica Miano (Southington, CT) had the other goals.
Sophomore Nicole Poli (Medfield, MA) contributed an assist, five caused turnovers, and four ground balls. She and senior Michelle Thompson (Wilbraham, MA) each had three draw controls.
Sophomore goalie Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) finished with 13 saves.
Senior Nikki Mackay (Framingham, MA) led Curry with two goals and three assists.
Junior Rachel Robichaud (Billerica, MA) had both of the Colonels' goals in the second stanza. Senior Kerri Shaw (Arlington, MA) compiled 11 saves.
Curry is now 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
